Manufacturers of computer-aided workshop equipment develop standalone network systems. The systems are not compatible with each other.

1997 / 98

Under the patronage of the ASA Association efforts are made to build an open network and a common standard from the different activities of single manufacturers.

1998

In 1998 some manufacturers of workshop equipment and software, backed by Volkswagen, agree on a single network standard. The independent company asanetwork GmbH is established In May 1998. All shareholders are members of the ASA Association. The Bosch Workshop Network BWN is acquired, neutralized and further developed. asanetwork receives the innovation award at the Automechanika Frankfurt. 

1998 up to now

Manufacturers of computerized workshop appliances and software establish an open network standard with the goal of establishing this as a world-wide standard. The asanetwork is further developed in cooperation with the automobile industry to the market requirements. A cooperative agreement is signed with the American network i-SHOP to bring together the different systems in the long term. More and more foreign manufacturers are adopting the network standard.
